20 Year Old commits suicide

Family members of 20 year-old Antwaine Moxam of Llandilo Phase One, Westmoreland, came home Monday afternoon only to find that the he had taken his own life.

“We are not sure what could have transpired for Antwaine to do such a thing,” his older sister Cleopatra said. She told the Western Mirror that the incident has greatly affected her family, her father in particular who is a policeman.

A Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) report issued on Tuesday morning revealed that at about 1:45 pm the elder Moxam was summoned to his home. On his arrival his son was seen with a gunshot wound to the head slumped over a computer in the living room. An apparent suicide note was displayed on the desktop and a firearm found beside the body. The body was later removed to the morgue for post mortem.

A visibly shaken Cleopatra tried unsuccessfully to hide the tears as it flowed while she recounted her last moments with her brother on Sunday. “I came down on the weekend as I am studying at UTech and when I saw him everything was fine, so I cannot say what could have happened to him that he should take his own life,” she said.

“His girlfriend said she received a call from him saying that he was going to kill himself and then he just hanged the phone up. She said when she tried to call his phone it just went unanswered. That is when she called daddy who came home and found him dead right here,” Cleopatra recalled.

Antwaine was a student of the Caribbean School of Technology in Montego Bay. Cleopatra noted that he showed no signs of stress or worry. She described him as a very jovial yet quiet person and that it is rather mysterious that he would take his own life. His death has destabilized the apparently closely-knitted family who are now grappling with a scenario they thought would never happen to them.

“Look at his face,” a family friend urged this Western Mirror reporter. “He was such a sweet young man, I just cannot believe what happened here,” she said. As for what was written on the note family members were reluctant to disclose the information.
