Frome,
Westmoreland
Negril FC will host former Premier
League champions Wadadah FC in the
first-leg finals of the Captain's
Bakery Western Confederation Super
League at the Frome Sports Cub this
Saturday starting at 3:00 pm.
The teams qualified for the finals
after wins in the semi-finals that
were completed last Saturday at
Jarrett Park. Negril beat Salt
Spring FC 2-0 to win 3-2 on
aggregate after losing the first
leg.
Wadadah got by last year's winners
Granville 4-3 on penalty kicks after
the teams tied 2-2 after Saturday's
second leg.
In addition to playing for the title
and the cash prize, the teams are
playing for the right to advance to
the play-offs for next season's
National Premier League.
The teams will be meeting for the
third time this season after sharing
the first two games they played
against each other after being drawn
in Zone B.
Negril had won the first game 2-1 on
their way to the end-of-first-round
finals while Wadadah won the
second-round game 3-0.
Both teams are coming off
hard-fought wins on Saturday, and
Saturday's game is expected to be a
closely contested affair.
Both teams will see the return of
top players who sat out Saturday's
game through suspension; experienced
central defender Mark Williams will
return to the Wadadah line-up while
Negril will welcome the return of
midfielder Jermaine Green.
Wadadah will be boosted by their win
over Granville, which came about
only because of a last-minute
blunder by goalkeeper Nicholas
Steadman who fumbled a ball over his
line in the 90th minute.
Wadadah trailed 2-1 but never gave
up and kept pressuring the Granville
team and most likely will take this
approach against Negril.
Negril will however seek to make
full use of the home advantage and
will hope Howard Phillips, Rohan
Campbell and Michael Cooper are up
to the task.
