Frome beat St. James, fans whisked to the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station

Players, students and teachers of St. James High School had to be whisked to the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station after the Coaster bus carrying students and teachers was damaged by students wearing Frome Technical High School uniforms as they tried to leave the Frome Sports Complex after their Interzone match.

The police officers who were standing at the entrance to the field had to rush over to the stand area as the students from Frome Technical threw stones and bottles at the students and teachers from St. James High School.

D’Cup preliminary round ends

With the final round of matches in the Preliminary Round of the daCosta Cup Football Competition ending on the weekend, the zone winners cement their spots for the Ben Francis KO set to start on Wednesday, October 22, while the runners up prepare for the Interzone round set to start on November 5 where they will be placed into Groups.

Teams, although not able to leave their respective zones gave of their best. In Zone A a brace from Lee-Roy Chung guided Irwin to a 2-1 win over Herbert Morrison at the home field after both teams battled to a 2-2 in the first leg at Irwin. Cornwall fully snatched the second spot from the jaws of Maldon with a 1-0 victory over Spot Valley while Zone leaders St. James spank Green Pond 3-0 at Jarrett Park.

Godfrey Stewart vs Mannings High

UPDATE! Godfrey Stewart and Grange Hill High has advanced to the inter zone of the DaCosta Cup

Godfrey Stewart takes full charge of Zone C on Tuesday when they clipped Grange Hill by a goal to nil, defender Andre Loney of Godfrey Stewart had to make a hasty clearance in the 17th minute to deny Grange Hill an early goal after keeper Roal Andrews was beaten off his line. Godfrey Stewart was awarded a free kick from about 21 yards to the right-side of the goal, he fired a bomber to beat Chad Blair the custodian for the 11th minute goal to sent the home team into the lead.

Grange Hill regrouped and three minutes later Blair pulled of a brilliant save parrying Oshane Hall’s blistering shot over the crossbar. Both teams missed a number of chances in the second half, thus the home team held on to the one goal advantage to win the match and move to the top of the zone on 14 points.

Frome Reinforced Spot

Frome DaCosta CupFormer daCosta Cup champion, Frome High, ensured its interzone aspirations remained intact by clipping Green Island 1-0 in a heated Zone B clash on Wednesday.

The game which was played before a large partisan crowd at the Green Island High School grounds saw both teams playing rather tentatively in the opening stages.

Green Island gradually settled and mounted numerous attacks in the Frome defensive area. In the 32nd minute, Canute Taylor saw a ball falling favourably for him in the Green Island area, but his shot was too high to effect an impact on the score sheet.

Godfrey Stewart Vs Mannings High
Godfrey Stewart defeated Mannings High School on Saturday September 27th, 2008 at the Godfrey Stewart home ground. The match came to an end at a 1-0 in favour of Godfrey Stewart. Godfrey Stewart now has a total of 5 points and will match up with Grange Hill high today at their home ground at Morgan’s Bridge, Grange Hill.

Frome defeats Green Island, Draws with Russeas

Frome Vs Green Island
Frome Technical continued their run toward reaching the inter-round stage of the daCosta Cup Football competition with a hard fought 4-1 victory over Green Island High on Monday. Led by a brace from Ricardo Monroe, Frome proved the better of the two though their opponent appeared to be better conditioned for the assignment, which – based on the underfoot condition at the Frome Sports Complex – was indeed the way to go.

On September 27th at another home ground match they end the match up between them and Russeas High at 1-1.

Godfrey Stewart vs Petersfield High

Godfrey Stewart
Godfrey Stewart High vs. Petersfield High School DaCosta Cup match yesterday held at the Godfrey Stewart playfield on Lewis Street end on a draw.

Both team tussled throughout the match with Godfrey Stewart making numerous attempts to score while the Petersfield guys was doing more defending than attacking.

Both teams now have two points from two draw matches. Next match will be held at Manning’s High School on Saturday Sept, 27 – Manning’s vs. Godfrey Stewart

Godfrey Stewart vs. Maud McLeod

Godfrey Stewart vs. Maud McLeod
Two DaCosta Cup matches took place in Westmoreland yesterday, Godfrey Stewart vs. Maud McLeod at the Godfrey Stewart home ground and Mannings High vs. Grange Hill High at the Grange Hill High home ground.

The Match between Godfrey Stewart and Maud McLeod did not commence till approximately 35 minutes pass the official match time due to inclement weather. The match went on for the full 90 minutes but after numerous attempts to score by both teams the match ended in a draw 0-0. Both teams will move on to their next match with 1 point gained from this match.
