Popular dancehall artiste, Vybz Kartel, whose correct name is Adijah Palmer was detained under the state of emergency, after the police asked him to turn himself in . He was in custody for a little over two weeks, but was eventually released on Saturday July 17, 2010.
Now that Kartel has been released, his attorney, Valerie Neita-Robertson is seeking compensation for him. She believes that he deserves this recompense because the State overstepped its bounds.
According to Neita-Robertson, National Security Minister, Dwight Nelson, had signed an order on Tuesday July 13, 2010 approving the release of Kartel. She claims that despite this, her client was not released. She believes Kartel’s delayed detention caused him loose numerous contracts, and therefore he should be compensated.

But his attorney, Valerie Neita Robertson, is reporting that despite the signed order for the release of her client, up to late last evening, the St Catherine divisional command had given no indication that he would be released.

One and all, I don’t know if I’m the only one that has come to this conclusion, but it really is bugging me that Curry Festival is not what it used to be. Curry Festival used to be such a thrill, children come out and enjoy themselves, young adults can come out and socialize in peace and harmony, not to worry about if a fight is gonna ensue or if they are gonna go home sad or in pain and adults can safely browse without wondering if their children are gonna be ok. Not so anymore. It’s quite the contrary.
Every year they have Curry Fest, it gets lower and lower in standards as it seems to be geard more and more around the profit that the sponsors will make rather than the genuinity of the event. When will the sponsors of our year-to-year events really look at what is most important? Turning Curry Fest into some sort of a Stage show I think was the worst move. This year, there wasn’t even much live entertainment. What happened to Fab 5 this year? They have always thrilled us with good music.

While the annual Westmoreland Curry Festival remains, essentially, a food festival, it is also fast becoming a major musical event based on the calibre artistes being booked for its concert phase.
For this year’s staging, slated for Sunday, May 25, at the Manning’s School in Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland, curried mangoes, shrimps and the other exotic dishes might not be the main delicacies, as those mouth-watering dishes might have to play second fiddle to the star-studded concert line-up, which is headed by Danger Zone recording star, Jah Cure.
“Jah Cure is easily one of the most loved artistes in this part of the island,” a spokesman for the organisers told The Gleaner. “Members of the public have been clamouring for us to book him so we have decided to grant them their wish.”

PROMINENT United States-based attorney, Professor David Rowe, says he has very little hope that reggae star Buju Banton’s entrapment plea will hold up in a US court.
Rowe said the US revelation that the prosecution has video recordings of Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, tasting cocaine and participating in arrangements for the sale of contraband, will work against him in a big way.
“I see his chances as begin very low. He is on video offering cocaine for sale. I don’t think the entrapment argument has a great deal of effort,” Rowe told Chat! yesterday.
