During the course of this week, a number of heavily armed police units were deployed all over the city of Montego Bay in a bid by the Jamaica Constabulary Force to rid the parish and mainly the towns of the large number of suspected lotto scammers infesting the streets.

The lawmen targeted persons using the money transfer outlets but they mainly focused on the drivers of ‘hype’ motor cars (crissas) flowing through traffic along the busy streets. Barnett, Harbour, St. James and Market Streets were the areas mainly targeted. Most of the vehicles are owned and driven by very young teenagers who have just reachd the age to acquire a licence and it is very unusual to see them clad in the latest fashions cruising the town in first class vehicles.

One police officer informed this newspaper that most of these teenagers are not in a well paid job, not living in decent houses and have no solid education background but still they can afford to travel around with several thousands of dollars in their pockets and drive a $2M.

According to him, over the past month, a number of teenage boys have been taken into custody based on the fact that they were at some point stopped, searched and found to be carrying massive amounts of cash on their person. When questioned, they could not give proper explanation as to how they came by the money.

Also, several others who have licences just several months old, are found to be driving motor vehicles registered in their names, but also cannot show a proper work identification or provide the law with much proof as to how they have come to own such vehicles.

This reporter understands that the police are now coming down very heavy on these individuals and the cash and cars are being seized and impounded until proper investigations are carried out which will determine how these teenagers come by these expensive personal possessions.

Sherlock Holmes has been reliably informed, that the scammers have since resorted to visiting the downtown areas of Montego Bay on a frequent basis, but the few that comes to town are now travelling by taxi and with little cash in their pockets only to keep them through the day.
