D’Cup kicks off next week
The Inter-Secondary School Sports Association Manning and DaCosta Cup football competitions will officially get underway next Saturday, September 13, with the playing of three games at Jarrett Park.
The games will see DaCosta Cup champion Garvey Maceo opening their title defence aginst Kemps Hill High. Manning Cup winners Jamaica College will tackle Jonathan Grant High in the second encounter, while in the feature game St. James High will do battle with pre-season favourites Cornwall College.
“We have the team to deliver this season and expect to go all the way,” said Dr. Dean Weatherly, coach of Cornwall College. This season, a record 85 teams will be participating in the DaCosta Cup wherein 36 teams are down to fight for the Manning Cup.
Pepsi and Digicel will once again be the title sponsors, with KFC and Scotia Bank being associate sponsors. The DaCosta Cup will see a few new entries, Spot Valley High, Holland High, Hopewell High, Buff Bay High and Green Pond High have all been confirmed to participate. Robert Lightbourne High, Edwin Allen High and Cross Keys High are slated to return.
The DaCosta Cup will consist of 12 zones, A – L, the zone winners and runners-up will advance to the inter-zone which will be subdivided into six groups. The inter-zone, winner and the best two second place teams will advance to the quarter finals. The grand final has been set for December 6
