Mango Festival 2009 turned out well
Arriving at the Delveland Community Centre at approximately 3pm, I was quite surprised to see the fiddling number of patrons knowing that the festival has started at 10 am. Being an annual patron I was surprised because at this time at venue would already be packed with patrons by this time. The venue had approximately 15 booths, but the one that got most visitors was one that displayed a variety of mango pastry such as Mango Bread, Mango Muffin, Mango Crumble, Mango Juice and many others.
Smoke could be seen coming from the four corners of the venue as the jerk vendors had turned out in numbers, Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork was ready with each vendor offering their customers a special home made mango sauce.
However, as soon as Ms. Kitty hit the stage and started to MC the evening entertainment, the Delveland Community Centre gradually got more populated as if there were patrons on the outside just waiting for the real entertainment to start.
Ms Kitty the fluffy diva came and gave the crowd a vibe, with her unique style. There were Mango Eating Competitions, Dancing Contest, DJ Contest and other wacky type of entertainment. Lady Pepa from Vybz Fm took over the Mc job for the evening after Ms Kitty from RJR 94 FM exited the stage.
Lady PePa continued with the pace that the fluffy diva started off with as she introduced various gospel artists on stage with the highlight gospel artist “Sandra Brooks” closing that segment with some really inspirational songs. Next we got to see our local artists perform with Grandsonn and Wiskey Baggio being the crowd pleasers.
Cameal Davis the 2008 Digicel’s Rising Star came and song her soul out as she gave a beautiful rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s Spotlight just before she exited the stage, then the dancehall trio VoiceMail came and made the patrons dance with songs like Dancing Fever, Wacky Dip and BemBe. The next artist should have been the comical Prof. Nuts which was late or lost on his way to the secluded community but the vibe did not die as the selectors of Grenade from Grange Hill really entertained and introduced another comical act name Kemical who is also from Grange Hill and really made the patrons stop dancing and started laughing.
