Hurricane Season 2008
Tropical storm Hanna, has brought havoc to parts of the Caribbean not long after the misery left behind by Gustav.

Haiti has received a double blow while the Turks and Caicos islands and the Bahamas received their first significant brush with storms since the start of the season.

In Northern Haiti, the storm has killed more than 10 people in the town of Gonaives.

Only days ago Hurricane Gustav passed over Haiti – killing at least 77 people and destroying thousands of homes.

Four years ago, a storm hit the same city killing more than 3,000 people.

Hanna hit the Caribbean just hours after Hurricane Gustav crossed the coast of the US state of Louisiana.

The storm also caused widespread flooding in Cuba and Puerto Rico.

According to reports a university student drowned in Puerto Rico.

And there’s more storm activity in the Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Ike has formed midway between the Caribbean and Africa, and could become a hurricane within two days and further to the east there is another tropical storm – Josephine.

Meanwhile, Cuban freighters have taken food, water and other relief supplies to the Isle of Youth, south of the country, which was hit by Hurricane Gustav.

Additional freighters are expected to transport supplies and generators from Havana to restore electrical service which was disrupted when Gustav lashed the island as a Category Four hurricane.

Gustav, which has since weakened to a depression, claimed the lives of over 80 people in Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic before pounding Cuba.

However, no lives were lost in Cuba.
