Mt. Pelier clip Grange Hill
Mt. Pelier FC continued their good run of form by defeating Grange Hill 1-0, in the rescheduled Captain’s Bakery Sponsored Western Confed Football Competitions at the Mt. Pelier Sports complex on Wednesday.
Mt. Pelier entered the game brimming with confidence having defeated Violet Kickers 3-1 in their previous game. Playing before a large partisan crowd, Mt. Pelier started attacking from the opening whistle led by Oliver Bright, Iton Scott and Kirk Ellis. They pierced numerous stops in the Grange Hill backline. With faulty shooing plaguing Mt. Pelier, Scion McNeish scored what would prove to be the winning goal in the 41st minute when he knocked in an Iton Scott cross from close range.
On resumption of the second half, Grange Hill launched a few sporadic attacks, but Scion McNeish and company in the Mt. Pelier back four quickly extinguished this. With the introduction of the speedy Stanton Brown and the crafty Lenore Campbell, Mt. Pelier piled on the pressure.
The home team had a goal disallowed later in the game when former national striker Denton Vidal who is also the coach, saw his 88th minute strike rule off side. Grange Hill got the opportunity to level the score line three minutes later when Tremaine Perry broke free in the box, but fired wide from close range. “We are taking each game seriously, the team has been training hard, we know what is required and we will be looking to win all our remaining games,” said Mt. Pelier’s coach, David Gardener.
