A man who tried unsuccessfully to enter Canada on a fraudulent Canadian Visa, was placed on probation for 12 months. Resident Magistrate Vivienne Harris made the order on Tuesday, June 2 when the case against Junior Beckford was called up for mention in the Montego Bay RM court.

The 28 year-old resident of Mamee Bay in St. Ann was facing a charge of uttering a forged document. Reports are that on April 25, 2009 about 2:40pm, Beckford checked in to board a West Jet flight to Toronto, Canada at the Sangster International Airport and presented a Jamaican Passport endorsed with a Canadian Visa.

The agent became suspicious and as a result, Beckford was referred to the Immigration Investigation Unit. Upon examination of the visa certain irregularities were detected in the security features. The Canadian High Commission was contacted who confirmed that the visa was in fact fraudulent.
