Robbers strike before dawn
Gunmen went on a spree in Georges Plain, Westmoreland, early Saturday Morning, robbing at least two residents, threatening to shoot another and shot after a woman who barely missed being shot while hiding under a bed.
One resident, still shaken by the ordeal said that at about 3 a.m., men with guns threw a concrete block into the door of his one bedroom home and entered. Upon entering, the gunmen held a gun to his nine year-old stepson’s head and demanded to know the whereabouts of his mother, who at the time was hiding under the bed.
“Dem a ask fi him for her, but she did under the bed and I was hiding behind the fridge, suh is the little man dem find and a threaten fi kill him,” the man said. He said a short while after one of the men noticed a car key on the dresser and demanded to know who else was inside the house.
“After that dem a rough up the youth and one of dem come around the back and kick-in the door and see me hiding. Him then point the gun innah mi face and tell me that him want the boss money,” the man recounted.
In all, the robbers managed to take with them over $30,000 in cash, but not before firing several shots into the house, one of which nearly hit the man’s common-law-wife. The bullet tore through a bed slipper she had on, miraculously missed her as she huddled under the bed in fear. Bullet holes were visible in the door, the couple’s dresser, bed and floor; all tangible signs of the marauding audacity of their attackers.
Now the man, who operates a taxi for a living, is calling on the police to step up patrols in the neighborhood, citing his and other resident’s fear of being killed. He said he believes the attack was really directed at his girlfriend, who dances for a living, hence him not being killed.
