Westmoreland Doctor Murdered
SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — Residents in and around this coastal town are mourning the death of 65-year-old Dr Levy Hibbert, who was found at his home on Tuesday with what appeared to be gunshot and stab wounds.
Hibbert was reportedly found lying in a pool of blood at his Big Bridge, Savanna-la-Mar home — located between Savanna-la-Mar and Little London — by his son.
According to CCN liaison officer for Westmoreland Corporal Thomozine Foster, Hibbert was reportedly last seen alive about 10:00 pm on Monday. On Tuesday at about 9:55 pm when his son went to look for him at his home, he found the doctor lying on the floor beside his bed in a pool of blood.
Subsequently, an alarm was raised and the police summoned.
The body was removed to the Doyley’s Funeral Home.
The Savanna-la-Mar CIB is investigating.
One man who claimed to have been one of Hibbert’s patients, expressed regret at his passing.
“It is so hard to know that Dr Hibbert died by some gunman. He was loved, he will be missed by several persons. He was a loving caring person. He is one of the best doctors I think in Westmoreland. I hope his killers will be brought to justice.”
And in a release yesterday, the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ) expressed sadness. ” Dr Hibbert has made a significant contribution to public health care in his community. We extend deepest sympathies to his family, friends and patients.
The MAJ is deeply concerned about the increasing number of violent acts being committed against our colleagues and their families. While we strive to provide quality health care for all Jamaica, we urge the Government of this country to do all that is necessary to ensure that we have a safe Jamaica for hard working citizens to live and work in.
We have every confidence that the security forces will move swiftly to bring the perpetrator (s) of this gruesome act to justice, the said MAJ President Dr Winston De La Haye in the release. Hibbert is the first murder victim registered in the parish since the start of the year. Last year 61 murders were recorded in the parish.
