SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland
The Savanna-la-Mar
firefighters, who were forced to relocate from the dilapidated
Dalling Street station last year, returned last Tuesday to vastly
improved facilities.
"We are satisfied with the work
done, and have settled in well. I also believe that now that the men
and women of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Westmoreland Division are
more comfortable in what I would classify as a better working
environment, we will be empowered to continue to offer the public
good quality service," said Assistant Superintendent of the
division, Michael Mills.
Among the improvements at the station, which was renovated by
Guarantee Construction Limited, are:
. a new paint job and a new
kitchen with fixtures;
. an improved lighting system; and
. additional female bathroom facilities.
Last November, the firefighters - who demonstrated against the
condition of the facilities - were relocated to premises at Farm Pen
in Westmoreland from where they served the public for almost four
months. Mills noted that while Farm Pen was not ideal, it had served
its purpose.
